- Alcohol (daily use)
- Higher risk of isoniazid hepatitis.
- Acetaminophen
- Isoniazid induces the liver enzyme that forms acetaminophen's toxic metabolite; severe acetaminophen toxicity has been reported.
- Phenytoin
- Raises phenytoin levels. Adjust phenytoin to avoid toxicity.
- Carbamazepine
- Slows carbamazepine metabolism and raises its levels. Check levels before combining and watch for toxicity.
- Theophylline
- Raises theophylline levels. Monitor theophylline levels closely.
- Valproate
- May raise valproate levels. Monitor plasma valproate.
- Ketoconazole
- With isoniazid and rifampin, ketoconazole AUC fell by as much as 88%.
- Tyramine- or histamine-rich foods (cheese, red wine, tuna, other tropical fish)
- Headache, sweating, palpitations, flushing, or hypotension from weak MAO and diamine oxidase inhibition. Avoid these foods.
- Food
- Significantly reduces absorption. Do not give with food.
