Antituberculosis drugs

Antituberculosis drugs kill or stop the growth of the bacteria that cause tuberculosis. Active disease is treated with several drugs together for months, such as isoniazid, rifampin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol, and isoniazid alone can treat infection that has not yet caused disease. Upset stomach is common, and rifampin turns urine, sweat, and tears orange-red. Liver injury is the main serious risk, so dark urine, yellow skin, or ongoing nausea is reported right away, and every dose is taken to prevent drug-resistant tuberculosis.
