A rapid-acting human insulin analog. Like insulin, it lowers glucose by driving uptake into skeletal muscle and fat and by suppressing hepatic glucose production, and it inhibits lipolysis and proteolysis. It is equipotent to regular human insulin unit for unit but is absorbed faster, with peak serum levels 30 to 90 minutes after a subcutaneous dose, giving a quicker onset and shorter duration.
