Hypoglycemia: oral carbohydrate for mild episodes; glucagon or concentrated IV glucose for coma, seizures, or neurologic impairment. Keep observing and feeding carbohydrates, since the long action can bring lows back. Correct hypokalemia.

A human insulin analog. Like insulin, it lowers glucose by driving uptake into muscle and fat and by suppressing liver glucose production; it also blocks fat and protein breakdown and shifts potassium into cells. After subcutaneous injection it is absorbed slowly, giving a fairly flat level over 24 hours with no pronounced peak, unlike NPH.
