Penicillins
Penicillins are beta-lactam antibiotics that kill bacteria by blocking cell wall synthesis. They treat many common infections, including strep throat, ear infections, and some pneumonias. Allergy is the main concern and ranges from rash to anaphylaxis, so prior reactions are always checked before the first dose. Diarrhea is common, and C. difficile infection can follow any course.
