GLP-1 receptor agonists

GLP-1 receptor agonists mimic a gut hormone that boosts insulin release after meals, lowers glucagon, slows stomach emptying, and reduces appetite. They treat type 2 diabetes and obesity, and some also lower the risk of heart attack and stroke. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common, especially when the dose is increased. They are linked to pancreatitis and are avoided in people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer.
