Cephalosporins

Cephalosporins are beta-lactam antibiotics that kill bacteria by blocking cell wall synthesis. They are grouped into generations, with later generations covering more gram-negative organisms. Ceftriaxone treats pneumonia, meningitis, gonorrhea, and many hospital infections. A small share of people with penicillin allergy also react to cephalosporins, so allergy history is checked before the first dose.
