Beta blockers
Beta blockers block beta-adrenergic receptors, which slows the heart rate, reduces the force of each beat, and lowers blood pressure. They treat high blood pressure, angina, heart failure, and arrhythmias, and they improve survival after a heart attack. A slow pulse, low blood pressure, and fatigue are the main side effects. They can mask the warning signs of low blood sugar, and stopping them suddenly can cause a rebound fast heart rate or chest pain.
