Antifungals (azoles)

Azole antifungals block an enzyme fungi need to make ergosterol, a key part of the fungal cell membrane. Fluconazole, itraconazole, and voriconazole treat yeast infections such as vaginal yeast infections and thrush and serious infections such as cryptococcal meningitis. Nausea, headache, abdominal pain, and rash are common. They block the liver enzymes that clear many other drugs, which causes dangerous interactions, and some can prolong the QT interval or injure the liver.
