Analgesics and antipyretics (non-opioid)
Non-opioid analgesics and antipyretics relieve pain and bring down fever without the breathing and dependence risks of opioids. Acetaminophen is the main example and is used for headaches, muscle aches, arthritis pain, and fever, and in the hospital alongside opioids. At usual doses it causes few side effects and does not irritate the stomach or affect bleeding the way NSAIDs do. Taking more than the daily maximum, often by combining several products that contain it, can cause severe liver damage.
