- Digoxin and other cardiac glycosides
- Synergistic arrhythmias, and hypercalcemia raises digoxin toxicity risk. Avoid; if needed, give calcium slowly in small amounts with close ECG monitoring.
- Ceftriaxone
- Forms calcium precipitates. Contraindicated together in neonates 28 days or younger; in older patients give them one after the other with a thorough line flush, never at the same time through a Y-site.
- Calcium channel blockers
- Calcium may reduce their response.
- Vitamin D, vitamin A, thiazide diuretics, estrogen, calcipotriene, teriparatide
- May cause hypercalcemia. Monitor plasma calcium.
- Phosphate- or bicarbonate-containing IV fluids
- Physically incompatible; precipitation may result. Do not mix.
- Minocycline injection
- Calcium complexes minocycline and inactivates it. Do not mix.
